If you didn‘t already know by now my name is David Lamb and i am a driving instructor in partnership with BSM in and around the Thetford area.

I haven‘t always been in this job role, i actually spent the first 35 years of my adult life working in a major retail company until i was made redundant just after the 1st lockdown. During my time as a Retail Manager i had developed many kinds of skills that i have been able to take with me into helping people learn to drive. I pride myself on the patience i have for those nervous students, the ones that panic from the first meet to the ones that are full of conversation and ‘skills‘. In the time i have been doing this job and getting people on the road safely i have discovered a real love for this and i enjoy watching people grow and see what they can achieve, That being said this as everything in life is a massive learning curve and things are always changing and i like to think i have the ability to keep up with those changes. I have the tools to help you become a safe driver for life, i have the patience to see it through even if you don't think you can and a good listening ear always helps too.

So if you are looking for an instructor that is going to get you on your way, then i hope i am that guy.

My lessons are based on a 2 hour driving session, I have good knowledge of practice areas in both Thetford and

Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding roads in and out, which means I can

easily adapt a lesson to make sure that all areas of learning are being covered.

I like to cover all types of situations that you may encounter on a test and make sure that you are

confident in handling them if they were to come up.

All students spend the whole of the 2 hour lesson driving, I see no reason to take a big chunk

of time from the lesson in theory practice when lots of that can be taught and learnt via real time driving.

I do however also heavily advise all students to revise and practice theory and hazard perception at home

in their own time to prepare for theory tests.

I use current technology where I like to keep an up to date detail of our lessons and your progress as well as a paper copy in the car so you will have complete access when needed.

I will then go through with students so we are able to reflect on our lesson and make a next step plan to ensure that

the lessons I provide are not only what we believe together we need to focus on but also very much student led.

I do encourage students where they can to do private practice with family and friends but advise that they

should remember our learning techniques are very different to those who have been driving a long time and try to remind them to not pick up ‘bad habits’, I am happy to discuss this with parents of students too.

I also offer 3 hour driving lessons in Norwich to get the ‘city driving’ experience, this is good for those who are going to be driving in busy areas more frequently.

On top of that I offer a 3 hour motorway session where we can drive to Stansted airport using the m11 to gain valuable skills in multi lane driving.

We will call you for a 15 minute check in chat the day before your first lesson where we can make sure you are ready and okay before we start our journey together,

this can be extended to the day before your test as well if you require a little bit of extra ‘boosting’ before you embark on showing off you NEW and SAFE driving skills to one of our local and friendly examiners.

You may hear people brag on how many lessons they have had or how quickly they passed their test, when you learn with me we do not worry about those types of statistics. The amount of lessons required to pass varies from person to person.

On average it can normally take between 35 to 45 hours of lessons to be what some may say ‘test ready’, I however am not doing that. My aim and goal is to get you to a place where you are safe and confident.

I will however keep track of all lessons and keep a record of everything so if you wish to know after you will have the details.

Do not worry if you have not ever driven a car before your first lesson, I will drive us to a safe and quiet place where we will be able to go through the basics and you will have the opportunity to have a go in an area with less traffic and foot fall.

After that you when you are ready, you will then be asked to drive home and venture out a little further. I will go at the pace the student is comfortable with.
